So in our daily lives, what else is made from polypropylene (PP)?

  1. Pots, buckets, furniture, plastic film, woven bags, bottle caps, and automobile bumpers.

  2. Disposable cups, jelly cups, and blister cups are all made of polypropylene; they are typically opaque, but jelly cups can be made transparent by adding a transparent polypropylene masterbatch.

  3. PP packaging film is also a major product category. Films for cigarette packaging, among others, are made of PP and are used in large quantities.

  4. PP pipes, PPR pipes, etc.

  5. Polypropylene anti-corrosion tape is used for corrosion protection of equipment undergoing secondary processing and other applications.

  6. Single-use sterile syringes and other medical devices.

  7. Large-scale packaging and transportation supplies, such as plastic pallets and trash bins.

  8. Modified polypropylene anti-corrosion tape has a wide range of applications, finding use in automotive engineering and the electrical‑appliance industry, among others, primarily through its flame retardancy, reinforcement, and toughening properties.

Polypropylene Anti-Corrosion Tape – Introduction to Polypropylene

Polypropylene is a non‑toxic, odorless, tasteless, milky‑white, highly crystalline polymer with a density of only 0.90–0.91 g/cm³, making it one of the lightest plastics available. It exhibits excellent resistance to water, with a water absorption rate of just 0.01%, and a molecular weight ranging from approximately 80,000 to 150,000. It offers good moldability; however, its relatively high shrinkage—1% to 2.5%—can lead to warping in thick‑walled parts, posing challenges for precision components with tight dimensional tolerances. The surface finish of molded parts is generally quite smooth and glossy.

Many customers wish to switch to blow-molded pallets, but due to limited knowledge of the material properties, they often encounter numerous challenges. Currently, the primary material used in the market for manufacturing blow-molded pallets is high-density impact polypropylene.

Product performance varies depending on the raw materials used. To control and enhance the properties of plastic products on the market, modified resins are widely employed. Today, Jinxiu has compiled a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of two types of raw materials commonly used in blow-molded pallets.

  Polypropylene anti-corrosion tape (PP)

  Advantages:

  1. It has better elasticity than PE, can be repeatedly bent, and exhibits excellent resistance to bending fatigue.

  2. It exhibits good heat resistance and can be sterilized by high-temperature disinfection.

  3. It exhibits stable chemical properties, allowing many chemical reagents to be used safely upon contact.

  4. High-frequency insulating materials exhibit excellent performance and are virtually non‑absorbent, ensuring that their electrical insulation properties remain unaffected by humidity and temperature.

  Disadvantages:

  1. Polypropylene anti-corrosion tape is prone to sagging.

  2. Not suitable for low-temperature environments

  3. Not suitable for contact with copper products.

  4. It is also highly sensitive to ultraviolet light.

Why are high-density, impact‑resistant polyethylene resins so commonly used in blow‑molded pallets today? Compared with conventional polyethylene, they offer significantly improved strength, impact resistance, and wear resistance, making them particularly well suited for both blow‑molding and injection‑molding applications.
