In terms of materials, the market currently offers trunk mats made from four types: XPE, silicone, woven‑loop fabric, and plastic. When weighing these options, each has its own strengths and weaknesses. Considering material quality and market share, and focusing solely on price, plastic trunk mats are the most affordable, followed by EVA mats, then woven‑loop mats, with XPE mats being the most expensive.

XPE trunk mats, also known as ultra‑fiber full‑wrap trunk liners, are crafted from natural protein fibers tightly woven in a three‑dimensional structure. Their surface features a distinctive grainy texture that delivers a natural grain pattern and luster. These mats offer exceptional comfort and softness, a sleek and sophisticated aesthetic, and excellent slip resistance and wear durability, making them a highly cost‑effective choice—particularly favored for mid‑ to high‑end vehicles such as the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series, Audi A4 and A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Volkswagen Magotan, Passat, CC, Honda Crosstour and Accord, and Ford Mondeo. Currently, leading brands renowned for producing high‑quality XPE trunk mats in China include Bozhuo and JindaoFu.

Silicone trunk mats, also known as EVA trunk mats, are resistant to corrosion from seawater, oils, acids, alkalis, and other chemicals. They are antibacterial, non‑toxic, odorless, and environmentally friendly. These mats are easy to remove and clean, and well‑known brands on the market include Bozhuo and Mugge.

The loop‑pile trunk mat is a one‑piece, pre‑shaped trunk liner crafted using advanced cutting and sewing techniques. It features a two‑layer construction: an anti‑slip granule layer on the bottom and a loop‑pile surface on top, with the layers thermally bonded together for enhanced comfort. However, it tends to trap dust and develop mold in summer. Currently, well‑regarded brands offering high‑quality versions of this type of trunk mat include Yuma and Goodyear.

Plastic trunk liners are the oldest type of trunk mat, typically featuring a flat base. They have largely been phased out from today’s market. Back then, their popularity stemmed from the malleability of plastic. However, as technology advanced, rubber trunk liners began to reveal an increasing number of issues—most notably, the release of carcinogenic substances. This problem becomes particularly acute in summer when interior temperatures exceed 40°C, posing serious health risks to drivers. In winter, plastic trunk liners tend to harden, potentially jamming the accelerator pedal and creating safety hazards.
